The main world newsmakers of the first days of 2025 were Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky.

The year 2025, which started from the very first days, turned out to be rich in statements related to international politics. Today, another meeting of Ukraine's allies in Ramstein is to take place. At this time, a significant part of the world expects that the bloody Russian-Ukrainian conflict will end this year, 2025.

Against this background, several resonant interviews at once, including those related to these topics, were given by US President-elect Donald Trump and still Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. It was their statements that were of the greatest interest to the Russian public, while domestic speakers "walked" the New Year holidays.

Details - in the material of the correspondent of The Moscow Post.

It looks like Ramstein on Thursday, January 9, is the last opportunity for Ukraine to knock out some serious arms packages before Donald Trump returns to the White House. At the same time, yesterday it became known that the outgoing administration of Joe Biden does not have time to carry out through the necessary procedures the allocation of a long-planned military aid package of $2 billion. The last "tranche" from Biden will be the already "painted" $500 million, which is extremely insufficient in the situation of a creeping Russian offensive.

The Trumpists will have to deal with the distribution of about $3.8 billion allocated for the same purposes earlier. Many of them, counting Vice President-elect Jay Vence, have previously expressed skepticism about providing such large amounts of aid. Well, a close associate of Trump, Elon Musk, regularly "trolls" and even directly accuses Ukrainian politicians of embezzlement and outright lobbying of their interests - and precisely with American money.

After celebrating the New Year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave two landmark interviews to Ukrainian TV channels participating in the propaganda "telethon," as well as to popular American researcher Lex Fridman. The latter was born in Russia and understands Russian. In this language, he offered to conduct a conversation. Zelensky defiantly refused, simultaneously insulting the Russian language, the Russian leadership and the entire Russian people. He stated that he did not respect the Russian leadership and citizens of our country.

It would seem that this is quite in the spirit of Zelensky. But the hypocrisy of yesterday's comedian is striking. The Russian language is native to both Zelensky and his family. He grew up in the Russian-speaking environment, repeatedly visited Russia, starred in Russian films and shows. His prototype in the series "Servant of the People," like all other actors, speak Russian. Moreover, as stated by the former adviser to the Office of the President of Ukraine Oleksiy Arestovich (recognized as a terrorist and extremist on the territory of the Russian Federation), all meetings in Zelensky's office are held exclusively in Russian.

Speaking about disrespect for the Russian people, Zelensky does not respect, first of all, the Ukrainian people. In 2019, he came to power under completely different slogans - to end the conflict in Donbass, to ensure equal rights and opportunities for all residents of Ukraine, regardless of language, cultural, ethnicity. Zelensky not only did not fulfill his promises, but did not even begin this process.

At the same time, the British edition of The Telegraph, and with it the Ukrainian media, reported on the desire of Volodymyr Zelensky to go for a new presidential term. Allegedly, for the sake of this, the team of the Ukrainian leader even began to threaten the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, now the ambassador in London, trying to stop his possible nomination in the elections. Now Zaluzhny's rating is much higher than Zelensky's. As a lever, the team of the "green" president can use the threat of initiating criminal cases against Zaluzhny - among others, the topic with the "abandonment" of Kherson of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the very beginning of the Special Military Operation is called.

True, the elections need a halt in hostilities. Zelensky's victory in the elections is guaranteed only by terror and the widespread use of administrative resources. But the preservation of power from the Zelensky team ensures the continuation of the conflict. So far, there are no prospects for stopping hostilities. Including, due to the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine themselves, which in early January made a desperate attempt to advance in the Kursk region in the area of the settlement Big Soldier. The attempt suffered a crushing defeat, and was probably timed to coincide with the imminent inauguration of Donald Trump.

It should take place on January 20. And a few days ago, Trump's victory in the elections was approved by the American Congress. In this regard, Donald Trump gave a large press conference, where, among other things, he touched upon the topic of the Ukrainian conflict. Unlike Zelensky's nervous chatter, taking the words of the elected president of the States is much more serious - although he is still a "troll."

What are Trump's statements about the desire to return Panama to US control, to annex Canada and Greenland. We are interested in something else: as Trump said, the conflict in Ukraine was the result of the mistakes of Joe Biden's team. From the context of Trump's words, it follows that Biden literally provoked Russia to a military response because of the promise to make Ukraine part of NATO. At the same time, in the Western world, allegedly everyone understood that Kyiv would never enter the North Atlantic Alliance. Among other things, Trump said he "understands Russia," which does not want NATO to stand at its eastern threshold.

These statements are in clear contradiction with what Zelensky said. In the above interviews, the latter once again confirmed the thesis that stopping hostilities is impossible without an invitation to NATO or "strong security guarantees" to Ukraine, primarily from the United States. Moreover, Kyiv wants to discuss them together with Washington and allies in Europe. And only if guarantees are received, Zelensky is ready to sit down at the negotiating table with Russia.

Trump's speech does not at all indicate that he is ready to meet these wishes. In addition, his visit to Kyiv (it was supposed to take place in early January) was canceled by Trump's future special envoy Keith Kellogg. The trip was postponed until after the inauguration of the President of the United States. The reason is not officially named. But the message about the postponement of the trip came shortly after Zelensky's interview with Lex Friedman. Which immediately gave rise to a version about the relationship of these events.

All this, coupled with the recent offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region, speaks of one thing - an early end to the conflict is not expected. And even more so on the first day of Trump's work as president of the United States, which he had previously promised. At a press conference, he said something else - that he hopes to end the conflict within six months after taking office. After the interview, he recovered that it was not even about ending the conflict, but about his meeting with Vladimir Putin. It can happen only after the inauguration of the 47th American president.

At the same time, it will be extremely difficult to agree, and we can talk not about a simple end to hostilities, but about a new system of guarantees for global security. In this sense, 2025 could be a turning point for the system of international relations. Albeit still ghostly, but the spirit of the "new Yalta" is still in the air.
