The Foreign Ministry believes that the Security Council meeting will allow sending a signal to Kyiv about the need to stop shelling the ZPP

A briefing was held by Ivan Nechaev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry. Answering questions from The Moscow Post, he commented on the topic of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and the IAEA.

One of the questions of a journalist from The Moscow Post concerned the situation with the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which is now in the spotlight.

The correspondent recalled that the Russian side invited IAEA specialists to the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant to assess the consequences of shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"A number of media outlets claim that the visit of IAEA specialists is opposed in the UN secretariat. According to Russian officials, the UN secretariat is acting in the interests of Kyiv. Is there an official position on this issue and what are the reasons for the delays?, " the journalist added.

Ivan Nechaev recalled that they have repeatedly and in detail commented on this topic at various levels, and recently a statement by the ministry on the preparation of an international IAEA mission to the ZPP was posted on the official website.

"We urge you to follow the discussions during the meeting of the UN Security Council convened at the initiative of Russia, which will take place literally in the coming hours. We hope that this event will allow sending a consolidated signal to Kyiv about the need to immediately and forever stop shelling and not impede the international mission of the IAEA to this station, "the Foreign Ministry spokesman added.

The Moscow Post journalist also asked: what is the reason that the Rossotrudnichestvo agency does not have a site?

"Well, you know, nevertheless, on this issue of the functioning of the Rossotrudnichestvo website, it would be recommended to contact the agency directly. They know better there, apparently", he added.
