The resolution of Russia and China on the "Northern Flows," not adopted on March 27 by the UN Security Council, caused no less international attention, be it adopted unanimously.
No one at the UN has argued that the perpetrators of the terrorist attack, which entailed severe environmental and economic consequences, should be brought to justice. But the document did not get nine votes out of 15. Only Russia, China and Brazil supported the resolution. And for some reason they refused to vote for the resolution of the US allies.
As the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova told The Moscow Post, "Despite the fact that the Russian draft resolution on the establishment by the UN Secretary General of an independent commission to investigate the circumstances of the explosion on the Nord Stream gas pipelines did not get enough votes," no one will be able to release this issue on the brakes, hush, push under the carpet "
Maria Zakharova: No one will be able to pull the Northern Flows question under the carpet
Indeed, the logic of what happened is impossible to understand. Gas pipelines are blown up, greenhouse gas methane in huge quantities broke into the atmosphere over the Baltic Sea, all countries of which support the "green transition." The multibillion-dollar property owned by the international consortium (Nord Stream) and individual corporations (Nord Stream-2) has been mutilated and cannot be restored.
It was not possible to track, find and catch terrorists or saboteurs, no one presented the evidence found, but for some reason the majority of respected and experienced representatives who sat in the UN Security Council abstained from voting. As if nothing special happened, although what happened became the "crime of the century."
Why did this happen? The investigation refused to be carried out by an organization that is designed to personify a collective mind, if only concern about a man-made mega-disaster. And what can the world expect, crammed with giant, vital, expensive and dangerous structures that could be targets for amateur terrorists, homeless saboteurs, could be evil aliens from other worlds? Or representatives of the special services from the pavilions of Hollywood film studios.
Only the lazy did not ask questions
When explosions occurred on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines on September 26, 2022, Germany, Denmark and Sweden admitted that it was a targeted sabotage, for which no one took responsibility.
How not to investigate this now at the UN? Otherwise, their reputation as the countries of the Baltic region, and even the respected world organization and the goals that it declares, may be in question. But someone explained to them that it was not necessary! Who could it be?
These questions in recent days have not been asked only by the lazy. Here the correspondent of The Moscow Post decided to ask what the Russian Foreign Ministry and the official representative of this department Maria Zakharova think about this.
"What specific steps are planned to be taken? In particular, in order to draw the attention of the UN Security Council to security issues, for example, the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant?, "We asked the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Maria Zakharova said that Moscow is disappointed with the decision of the UN Security Council. The diplomat noted that the security of the global energy infrastructure is now under threat. Russia will continue to seek to take the necessary measures to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice, she stressed.
Despite the fact that the Russian draft resolution on the establishment by the UN Secretary General of an independent commission to investigate the circumstances of the explosion on the Nord Stream gas pipelines did not get enough votes, "no one will be able to release this issue on the brakes, hush it up, push it under the carpet," Maria Zakharova said.
On the same day, the head of the Russian diplomatic department, Sergei Lavrov, commented on the same question. His response was: "Russia will do everything to prevent national investigations of explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipelines from" jumping off the hook, "RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
"Our next action will be to prevent these national investigations and those who have sworn that this will be enough to establish the truth from" jumping off the hook. " This is what we will do meticulously, the topic is far from closed, "Lavrov said at a press conference on Thursday.
"Indeed, it was an interesting, instructive and informative spectacle, as Western countries got out, dodged at a meeting of the Security Council just to not approve the order of the Secretary General to organize an impartial, objective, transparent investigation of the obvious terrorist attacks that were carried out against the Northern Flows gas pipelines. Everyone understands that these were terrorist attacks. But everyone also understands that too serious Western representatives have a stigma in a cannon, and they really do not want this investigation to be truly objective, "Lavrov said according to TASS.
Russian diplomats will continue to raise this uncomfortable topic for the West, and demand a report on national investigations. "All in order to avoid such barbaric attacks in the future, to protect the global energy infrastructure. It is possible to do this only by establishing the truth and punishing those who are behind the terrorist attack and those who performed it, "Maria Zakharova summed up.
Investigators and interrogators
Experienced American journalist Seymour Hersh conducted his investigation of the mega-accident that happened at the same time at three different points. According to his version, the authorities and special services of the United States and Norway were behind the terrorist attack. In Washington, no involvement in the terrorist attack was recognized and a certain pro-Ukrainian group was accused of the incident, and Russia's doubts were called a "biased" position.
Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh said on February 8, citing a source, that explosive devices under gas pipelines were laid in June 2022 by US Navy divers with the support of Norwegian specialists. They did so under the guise of the Baltops exercise that led NATO nations.
The decision on the operation was made by US President Joe Biden following nine months of discussions with administration representatives. The Pentagon told RIA Novosti that the United States has nothing to do with undermining gas pipelines. As KP.RU wrote, on March 24, 2023, Seymour Hersh said that the terrorist attack on Nord Stream was a kind of punishment for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for refusing to supply weapons to Kyiv.
Earlier, Sputnik radio reported that Germany began its own investigation into the circumstances of the explosions on Nord Stream. Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said earlier that the preliminary results of the investigation into the explosions on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines are confidential, so they will not be provided to Russia.
According to the document, which was considered at a meeting on March 27, a number of countries called on Germany, Denmark and Sweden to submit the results of their national investigations as soon as possible.
"For all the skeptical charge on how the Western investigations will end, we will not lag behind them, they all refused to support the international investigation, citing the impeccability of the investigations in their narrow circle. I think they will not be able to get away from the answer. Or, at least if they continue to dodge, their own public opinion will understand what they are worth, "said Sergei Lavrov, head of the Russian diplomatic service.
Moscow insists the State Department took a pause
Moscow insisted on the need for its participation in the investigation, since the emergency occurred at the facilities owned by the Russian Federation. The Prosecutor General's Office of Russia initiated a case of an act of international terrorism. Gazprom was allowed to examine the site of the explosion and the head of the company, Alexei Miller, reported this to the president. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the emergency an obvious terrorist attack.
The need to involve Moscow in the investigation was announced by the head of the Committee on Energy and Climate of the Bundestag of Germany Klaus Ernst, TASS reports.
"Why the federal government [Germany] did not join the resolution calling for an independent and internationally agreed investigation is not clear to me. I consider it expedient, as well as necessary in the light of the current situation, to involve Russia in an international investigation of the attack, "Rambler quoted him as saying.
"Release on brakes"
The US State Department could not comment on Washington's decision to abstain from voting in the UN Security Council. "As for the investigations of Nord Stream... I will have to return to you on this issue, "said Vedant Patel, deputy State Department spokesman, and added that he would need to" check with the team "and comment later on the actions of the United States.
Washington wants to "release on the brakes" dangerous information about the involvement of American special services in undermining the Northern Flows, the Russian Embassy in the United States said. At the same time, the embassy added, the States are trying to "hide" behind the actions of the allies in investigating the causes of the incident. And Washington's assurances of full confidence in these proceedings "are not worth a broken penny," diplomats are sure.
In early March, The New York Times wrote that, according to intelligence, a certain pro-Ukrainian group was behind the attack on the Northern Streams, and official Kyiv could not have known anything about its plans. Press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov called such publications a coordinated distraction.
Russia will continue to do everything possible to achieve an objective international investigation into the Northern Streams explosions, the presidential spokesman said. "We believe everyone should be interested in an objective investigation involving all stakeholders, all those who can shed light on customers and performers. We think this is extremely important. We are sorry that our initiative did not pass. But the Russian side will not let this topic be wrapped up, "said a Kremlin spokesman.
According to him, "now, probably, it is hardly possible to specify" what actions will be taken. "We will do everything in our power to insist and initiate an international investigation," Peskov added.
It remains only to answer two or three questions. First, let's ask ourselves and everyone who has time to speak out, what would we do without an investigation by an American journalist? Still, quietly worried about what happened?
Secondly, what special could happen if the UN Security Council in full force went on a one-year vacation, together with the Secretary General of this World Organization? Come up with the third question yourself - fortunately, there is enough space for the flight of curiosity and imagination.
